This week we were able to celebrate with the USA Women’s Hockey Team as they overcame the heavily favored Canadian Team in a shootout to bring home the gold. Following the USA victory, NBC interviewed several people coming out of the stadium and one kid cheered, “We won!” We? His comment got me thinking. Maybe this kid has figured out something that makes Jesus excited.
Is it me or does it seem like every 30 seconds another male in power is accused of sexual harassment? I believe in “innocent until proven guilty” but the sheer number of stories in the media plus the number of persons and stories that are not sensational enough for the media to cover reveal that women have been facing a huge problem for some time. So men, let’s take a moment and remember some important facts.
My heart rate rose to a place where my doctor told me it should not go. Thankfully, I didn’t know that was my doctor’s opinion until after the fact. If I had known I would not have accomplished my goal of finishing the race. Let me back up a step or two and explain.
Passion pours from the pores of every media pocket these days. No longer do you need a job at the television station to publicly rage. You don’t even need to call a radio talk show to air your grievances. Log into your favorite media / social media platform and strap yourself in because you are in for the emotional ride of your life.
It is not uncommon for this pastor to take his time and reflect before speaking about what enrages the masses. It is now time to speak into what is happening in our nation.
I read in the news this morning that a Clemson University professor believes every Republican is racist. A former president once said, “When you see all that rhetorical smoke billowing up from the Democrats…don’t inhale.” From political fighting to the threat of war, it is enough to make me want to build a bunker and shut the door. However, I think there is something better I can do with my time.
