This is a quote from "Remember the Titans," a movie based on events that took place in Alexandria, Virginia as Coach Boone integrated a high school football team. These young men were forced to find motivation to play for people they had been told to hate. From football to exercise to relationships, motivation can sometimes be difficult to find.
Yesterday Miriam and I were in Sams Club buying some picnic food for our Life Group that is gathering at my home on Sunday. For some reason I was leading the way and when I lead the way in a grocery store it usually results in our aimless wandering all over the place to find what we need. When Miriam was questioning my direction I heard a retired age woman say to her husband, “Could you have put the cart in a better place than the middle of the isle?” as we worked our way around them. I smiled knowing that both of us were having a “marital moment.”
Have you ever been weary? You log onto your social media account and see all the bickering, infighting and moral confusion. You go to work and tiptoe through political landmines. You go home and hope to find it peaceful. You go to the mailbox hoping for an unexpected check only to find an unexpected bill. You might be weary today.
“Is there a doctor anywhere? Please, we need a doctor! Someone is not breathing!” These are not words anyone wants to hear. I was seated in an airport waiting for my assigned boarding time to arrive when chaos erupted. I began to pray while the walkway quickly congested with onlookers who watched him lay there. Thankfully someone arrived to administer CPR but 15 minutes later the chest compressions were still ongoing while they found a way to transport him to an ambulance.
Today has been an interesting day. The low tire pressure light came on in my car. The folding machine in the office broke. The part that controls projection in the sanctuary broke. Three people are headed to the hospital. A church that I met with had several things break. Even though I don’t believe in bad luck I am wondering if I mistakenly walked under a ladder! Ever have one of those weeks when everything breaks?
