I think I owe my single friends an apology. I fear that I have been sucked into giving exclusive attention to the squeaky wheel. The squeaky wheel in most congregations is the need of the family - discipling children and strengthening marriages. However, our singles don’t have a marriage to strengthen and may not have children. How can we celebrate singleness?
We live during an intriguing time in history. There are endless self-proclaimed experts on both sides of every opinion. There are even endless experts on both sides of every fact. Add to this reality that we all have access to make endless declarations for the world to hear and see. I don’t know about you but my life is getting noisy.
This week we were able to celebrate with the USA Women’s Hockey Team as they overcame the heavily favored Canadian Team in a shootout to bring home the gold. Following the USA victory, NBC interviewed several people coming out of the stadium and one kid cheered, “We won!” We? His comment got me thinking. Maybe this kid has figured out something that makes Jesus excited.
Is it me or does it seem like every 30 seconds another male in power is accused of sexual harassment? I believe in “innocent until proven guilty” but the sheer number of stories in the media plus the number of persons and stories that are not sensational enough for the media to cover reveal that women have been facing a huge problem for some time. So men, let’s take a moment and remember some important facts.
